IRC

WPLUG runs its own IRC(Internet Relay Chat) server. Connect to irc.wplug.net to join the conversation.

The easiest way to get started is via our web client: https://webirc.wplug.net

Channels are listed in the server's MOTD (Message of the Day) when you connect.

IRC Guidelines

Here at WPLUG, we would like to uphold some basic requirements for behavior and usage. These guidelines are defined in order to allow us to react to user complaints concerning language, behavior or other negative situations that may occur. Please note that WPLUG channels are “family” channels and we have not had many situations where these rules needed to be enforced.

The following are grounds for dismissal from the channel:

  • Offensive word usage
  • Racial slurs
  • Derogatory comments meant to offend or insult a person
  • Spam
  • Behavior unbecoming of an adult or sane person (this includes changing /nick frequently)

How to Connect

Web Client (Easiest): Visit https://webirc.wplug.net to connect directly in your browser.

IRC Client: Use any standard IRC client with these settings:

  • Server: irc.wplug.net
  • Port: 6667 (plain) or 6697 (TLS/SSL)

Available channels are listed in the server's MOTD when you connect.

Popular IRC clients for Linux include:

Note: The Empathy chat client included with some Ubuntu versions may not work well with IRC, so you may be better off using a dedicated IRC client.

Registration: Many tutorials describe registering a nickname. This is optional; you can simply connect using your nickname of choice without registering or authenticating (note that if someone else is using that nickname, you'll have to choose a different one).
