Voting Procedures

WPLUG utilizes a transparent, member-driven voting system to ensure the collective's direction is decided by its participants.

Voting Platform

All official voting is conducted via our self-hosted Loomio instance. This ensures a verifiable audit trail and provides a structured environment for proposals and discussions.

Eligibility

To prevent “flash-vote” manipulation and ensure a baseline of community engagement, the following rule applies:

  • Grace Period: Every member is eligible to vote starting in the voting cycle immediately following the one in which they joined.

Election Cycles

WPLUG follows a staggered election schedule to maintain continuity:

  • Leadership Seats: All leadership roles are vacated and re-elected biannually.
  • Chairperson: The Chairperson position is vacated annually.
  • Terms: There are no term limits; members may be re-elected indefinitely.
  • The Chairperson Cycle: During an annual Chairperson election, one additional person is elected as a Substitute. This substitute is eligible for the Chairperson role and ensures a smooth transition when the new Chairperson vacates their previous leadership seat.

Nominations

We believe in active participation and the willingness to serve.

  • Self-Nomination: Any eligible member may nominate themselves for a leadership role.
  • The “Duty” Clause: If a leadership role has no volunteers, two members will be randomly selected to run for that role, ensuring no critical function of the collective remains unmanned.

Calling a Vote

Voting is not limited to election cycles.

  • On-Demand Voting: Any member of the Leadership body may call for a vote on any matter at any time via the Loomio instance. This includes the 3/5ths overrule of a Chairperson's decision.
