The Sovereignty Stack: "This for That"
The goal of the Sovereignty Stack is to replace corporate data silos with verifiable, self-hosted alternatives. This is not about finding a "clone" of a corporate service, but finding a tool that gives you **ownership**.

**Warning:** Self-hosting involves responsibility. Always follow the backup rules outlined in the Exit the Cloud Roadmap.

Core Infrastructure
*The foundation that makes everything else possible.*

 * **Instead of** a Proprietary Cloud => **Try:** Debian or Ubuntu Server on a "TinyMiniMicro" PC or Raspberry Pi.
 * **Instead of** Manual Software Installs => **Try:** Docker or Podman (via Docker Compose) for isolated, portable services.
 * **Instead of** Open Ports (Security Risk) => **Try:** Tailscale or WireGuard for a private, secure overlay network.

Data & Files
*Getting your documents and memories out of the walled garden.*

 * **Instead of** Google Drive / Dropbox / iCloud => **Try:** Nextcloud (The "everything" suite) or Seafile (focused, high-performance file sync).
 * **Instead of** Google Photos / Apple Photos => **Try:** Immich (modern, AI-powered, very similar to Google Photos) or PhotoPrism (robust indexing and organization).
 * **Instead of** Evernote / Notion / OneNote => **Try:** Joplin (open source, supports Markdown) or Obsidian (local-first, highly extensible).

Security & Identity
*Protecting your keys and your privacy.*

 * **Instead of** LastPass / 1Password / Google Passwords => **Try:** Vaultwarden (a lightweight, Rust-based implementation of Bitwarden).
 * **Instead of** Google/Facebook Login (OAuth) => **Try:** Authelia or Authentik for centralized authentication (SSO) across your own services.

Communication & Collaboration
*Owning the conversation.*

 * **Instead of** Slack / Discord / WhatsApp => **Try:** Matrix (via the Element client) for a decentralized, federated chat protocol.
 * **Instead of** Gmail / Outlook => **Try:** Mailcow or Poste.io (though email is the "final boss" of self-hosting—start with the others first).
 * **Instead of** Google Calendar => **Try:** Nextcloud Calendar using the CalDAV standard.

Discovery & Search
*Breaking the algorithmic filter.*

 * **Instead of** Google Search / Bing => **Try:** SearXNG (a privacy-respecting metasearch engine that aggregates results without tracking you).

**Pro Tip:** Don't try to migrate everything in one weekend. Pick **one** category (like Passwords or Photos), get it stable and backed up, and then move to the next. 📚
