====== WPLUG Leadership Roles ======

These are the roles required to operate WPLUG as a Pennsylvania nonprofit and as a functioning collective.

All officers are directors. The President is also the Chairperson.

===== Legally Required =====

==== President / Chairperson ====

**What PA requires:** The chief executive officer of the corporation. Presides over meetings. Signs contracts and legal documents.

**What WPLUG needs:** Executive authority when speed matters. Final say on proposals. The buck stops here.

**Responsibilities:**
  * Preside over all meetings
  * Execute contracts and legal instruments
  * Declare "emergent" decisions when immediate action is required
  * Cast tie-breaking votes
  * Appoint acting officers to fill temporary vacancies

==== Secretary ====

**What PA requires:** Maintains corporate records, minutes, official correspondence.

**What WPLUG needs:** Someone who documents what happened and keeps the archive honest.

**Responsibilities:**
  * Record and publish minutes
  * Maintain membership rolls
  * Manage official correspondence (info@wplug.net)
  * Oversee wiki maintenance and archive integrity
  * Give notice of meetings

**What PA requires:** Manages corporate funds, financial records, reports.

**What WPLUG needs:** Track domain costs, handle potential donations, be ready for 501(c)(3).

**Responsibilities:**
  * Maintain financial records
  * Handle domain, hosting, infrastructure expenses
  * Prepare financial reports
  * File required state and federal reports

Keeps the lights on—IRC, wiki, DNS, backups.

Welcome wagon, event wrangler, conflict resolution.

Workshops, labs, curriculum, mentoring.

Directory, applications, engagement tracking.

Social media, partnerships, promotion.

===== How Roles Get Filled =====

  * **Interim:** The Chairperson may appoint interim officers until elections are held
  * **Election:** All roles are elected by simple majority of voting members
  * **Term:** One year unless bylaws specify otherwise
  * **Vacancy:** The Chairperson may appoint a replacement until the next election
  * **Removal:** Any officer may be removed by a 5/7ths vote of the membership per the bylaws
